There's a "suck it and see" aspect to magick that's very important. If you self-initiate as I did, "suck it and see" will be the primary focus of your early magickal experiences and experiments.
Even if you have a mentor or a teacher, you should revel in the discoveries of magick and the self-reliance of magick. But be warned, the purely solitary path is a much slower and more difficult path, and you should expect some setbacks, and delays. So, if you're currently using the pass-thru option to perform the Ghost Flower ritual, you're willfully walking into mysteries for which you'll likely find no immediate answer or resolution. You're brushing up against mountains that are brushing back, and it can be daunting at times. Your most formidable hurdle is boredom. You may think of so many reasons to not complete the ritual. Your second most formidable hurdle is fear because you must experience an ego-death to fully go through the ritual, just as anyone who uses psychedelics or goes through a period of intense growth and self-actualization. Also, you may not know or trust it when you've hit a mystery or its answer. Particularly if this is your first foray into magick. We're socially wired the other way from magic. But nature wired us to be magicians. This can get confusing out there on your own. Are there other dangers to "suck it and see?" About the same as if you decide you pick up a trumpet and teach yourself to play. You'll make some weird noises and bug your neighbors, while opening up your ears and heart to music. If you know a little about music and you dedicate yourself to what you're doing, you might get a three-note melody going in an hour. Maybe it takes a week. The most likely scenario is, you get bored with it and throw the trumpet in the corner. If you want to "master" the trumpet it's going to take a long time. You may or may not need a teacher. You may or may not need several teachers. You might want to learn to read music; you might not want to learn to read music. Magick's no different. Including sudden "leaps" in ability. If you keep practicing your trumpet, someday you'll make a sound on it that surprises you and that might lead you to your unique voice. Magick's the same. The Ghost Flower ritual is intended to link you to your magickal voice. So it's cool that you picked up the trumpet, but you should, at the very least, consider the traditional ways of holding it and blowing into it. For this particular ritual (now dropping the trumpet analogy) this means: 1) Make solid contact with Jophiel. 2) Make solid contact with the Four Archangels. 3) Be fearless. If you've made solid contact with Jophiel and the Archangels you can now "suck and see" with impunity. Up to a point. You'll know that point. So, what's solid contact? It's a matter of gnosis. It's liable to be expressed in the material world through shadows, moods, scents, musical sounds, feelings. If you light a candle and incense, you provide a material basis for an angelic response. But angels can use anything as a material basis. Again, you'll know. But it's no good to know and forget. That's why you should learn and perform the LBRP, or a banishing ritual of your own devising, as often as you can. I hope you all found (or were found by) incredible flowers this new moon. Now put your flower in a dark place. Cleanse and purify your ritual tools and yourself. Read up on whatever areas of magick are calling you. Wait to see the flower's shadow and receive its name. Don't write the name down. Hold it in your heart. Watch for signs. Prepare for the Burning on the full moon. Go without fear.
